Solarback, a pioneering impact investment solar company, has joined forces with Native Business Workforce Solutions to introduce a groundbreaking, no-cost training and solar farm program. This initiative is tailored to provide affordable, eco-friendly renewable energy to minority communities, with a primary focus on Native American tribes.
Through a unique partnership involving Native American entrepreneurs, led by Dr. Erich Bourgault, national solar experts, and a dedicated team of governmental Native American benefits advisors, we are able to navigate obstacles efficiently and accelerate project completion timelines. Together, we are committed to delivering tangible results and making a positive impact on our communities.
The 567 federally recognized Native American Tribes and Alaska Natives in the United States have many different languages and customs, but one thing they all share is a deep reverence for the natural world. It makes sense, then, that many tribes are choosing to go solar to help reduce their carbon footprints, save money on electric bills and create revenue on reservations.
-Solar Power World
Regrettably, years of neglect and insufficient investment in Native communities, coupled with intricate regulations, have posed obstacles to the shift towards clean energy sources.
Today, there is a historic, fully funded opportunity for Native American communities to acquire the solar arrays needed to harness the benefits of renewable energy technology. In addition to providing the necessary solar equipment and regulatory guidance, we offer training programs for community members to operate and maintain these green energy facilities.
Our Mission
Our mission is to supply the materials, construction, and training to service these solar systems—at no cost—enabling underserved and overlooked minorities to generate affordable clean energy now and far into the future.
Each facility built through Solarback's program will:
This initiative will reduce energy costs and build a sustainable future, empowering Native American communities to thrive in a changing world.
"For the first time this year, IREC conducted qualitative interviews to gain more insight into the solar industry’s accomplishments and challenges related to diversity, equity, inclusion and workforce development. The “National Solar Jobs Census” found that the percentages of black, indigenous, people of color (BIPOC), women and other diverse groups in the solar industry have improved in recent years."
We are committed to working closely with minority communities, offering support and resources to foster growth and sustainability.
Through workshops and in the field training, we educate community members on the benefits of sustainable practices and how to effectively use and maintain our systems.
By providing access to high-quality, sustainable products, we help communities save on operational costs and improve efficiency, driving economic empowerment and long-term growth.
This initiative aims to establish solar farms for Tribal Communities, utilizing top-tier equipment constructed by experienced, vetted crews. The equipment and installation will be provided to the Tribal Community at absolutely no cost. Our objective is to deliver a sustainable solar farm capable of generating power for the next 30 years, along with the necessary training for operating and maintaining the facility throughout its lifespan. Once operational, the solar farm will lead to immediate energy cost savings and long-term benefits even our grandchildren will benefit from.
Solar energy deployment in the United States is rapidly increasing, with over 60 Giga Watts of capacity added since 2021 (Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) 2021. PV technologies can be deployed on rooftops, or they can be ground-mounted (U.S. Department of Energy 2021).
Rooftop Solar Farms
Solar energy is abundant, affordable and a big part of America’s transition to renewable energy. Solar power is especially valuable when it produces energy right where we need it: on the rooftops of our homes and businesses. Location and technology play a big role in Solar power being the least expensive energy to produce currently.
Rooftop solar is good for the environment and consumers. It reduces our dependence on fossil fuels, eases strain on the grid during periods of high demand, can increase resilience to threats like extreme weather, and limits the amount of land needed for clean energy.
How Is Solar Energy Helping Agriculture
Farms and grow facilities can benefit from solar energy in several ways—by leasing farmland for solar; installing a solar system on a house, barn, administrative buildings, lodges, or other building; or through agrivoltaics. Agrivoltaics is defined as agriculture, such as crop production, livestock grazing, and pollinator habitat, located underneath solar panels and/or between rows of solar panels. Solar energy offers farmers the opportunity to harvest the sun twice—the same reason land is good for farming (flat, open areas), also makes it good for solar installations.
